Business English II UIO SEP. 2019 (Prof. Paco Basantes)
Business English 2 covers four main components: grammar, vocabulary, functional language and cultural awareness.
1. Grammar
Grammatical accuracy is needed for the functional language which is required to develop fluency and communicative competence quickly.
2. Vocabulary
The vocabulary focuses on topics that decribe the basic structures and functions of the business world.
Key vocabulary and concepts are introduced in the keynotes. Students are required to activate the vocabulary through speaking and writing activities suchs as problem-solving tasks.
Furthermore, business vocabulary reviews communicative strategies and effective examples through dialogues, presentations and meetings.
3. Functional Language
Here the language has given relevance to anyone within an organisation, academic institution or commercial company. These functions include checking information, making predictions, negotiating, presenting and finding creative solutions.
4. Cultural awareness
Learning a common language is not longer enough to prepare people to do business in the global market place. Equally as important as linguistic competence is the ability to understand and deal with the cultural differences that prevent mutually misunderstandings and rewarding long-term business relationships forming across international borders.
